Faces of Luna: Phases of the Moon

New Moon
There are constants with each New Moon. The ancients recognized it as a time of beginnings, when light started to return to the night. Farmers know that seeds planted at this time enjoy vigorous growth (although in December this may only occur in greenhouses.) New Moons are great times to begin any project, and success is enhanced when it works with the sign the moon is in.

The sign is one of the variables in how the New Moon’s promise plays out. In Sagittarius, the themes include travel, higher education, foreign relations, religious endeavors, publishing and legal affairs (to name a few).

Another variable is where in the sky the Sun is exactly aligned with the Moon (from Earth’s perspective). Each sign has 30 degrees. So the degree at which this occurs effects the New Moon’s alignment with all the other planets. Since all the planets have different symbolic meaning, this “colors” the outcome of each New Moon.

Knowing where the New Moon falls in your personal horoscope can help you maximize its potential. This is how you channel the part of its power that is unique to you.
